The 1 Key Ingredient That Your Green Smoothie Is Lacking

Green smoothies are all the rage right now, and for a good reason too! Who doesn’t want all of their vitamin and vegetable needs packed into one glorious smoothie you can sip on? With all of the options out there, you would assume they have everything you need for proper absorption, but think again. In order for our bodies to properly absorb the nutrients in these green smoothies a healthy fat needs to be incorporated. A lot of times green smoothies are packed with vitamins A, K, and E which are fat soluble. When a vitamin is fat soluble, it needs to be paired with a healthy fat for maximum absorption.

 Healthy Fats

  • Virgin Coconut Oil
  • Olive Oil
  • Avocado Oil
  • Nuts (Walnuts, Almonds)
  • Chia Seeds
  • Hemp Seeds
  • Flaxseed
  • Peanut Butter

You may be thinking, “I do not want to add walnuts to my green juice.” You don’t have to, but simply snacking on these nuts while drinking your green juice will take your absorption of the greens a lot further. You can even add a small tablespoon of coconut oil directly into your drink for the same effect! The positive thing about healthy fats, is that they keep you satisfied longer, and they curb your appetite while stabilizing your blood sugar levels. Because juices can contain a lot of sugar, it is best that you pair your drink with a healthy fat to keep your body satisfied longer as well as able to better absorb that $10.00 super drink!

 Opt for ORGANIC!

We are all aware at how costly these drinks can be, due to how many veggies and super foods are packed into a small cup. One drink alone can have two to three pounds of vegetables, which is well worth the investment to drink organic if possible. If you opt out of the organic version, you will be ingesting a lot of pesticides that may cancel out the nutrients all together! Be mindful of this the next time you get a yummy green juice.

To wrap up, healthy fats are great for you! Do not be intimidated by the word “fat” and assume that you will gain weight and become “fat” yourself if you eat it. Healthy fats help our bodies absorb essential nutrients, stabilize our blood sugar, and control our hunger to name a few perks! Next time you are out and about grabbing a green drink, spend a little more for the organic version, and make sure to add a little healthy fat for maximum nutrient absorption and you will be set to go!
